Regarding the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available. Would a 10 year old with asthma be considered high risk and able to receive the vaccine? Also, what about the parents of a high risk child, would they qualify to receive the vaccine as well? We have all received the seasonal vaccine for this year.
Thank you!

Hello, Sophia:
Yes, it is absolutely safe and recommended to get a flu shot when breastfeeding and, when available, women of childbearing age should get the H1N1 vaccine too. In fact, pregnant women are recommended to get vaccinated while pregnant because any risk of the vaccine is far over-shadowed by the serious risk of the flu.
Best Wishes,

Pam: Try calling your local pharmacies -- Walgreens, CVS, etc. -- to see if any of them are offering shots. Many have free, seasonal flu vaccine programs for the uninsured.
We wish you good health,
